PC gaming is superior to console gaming for several obvious reasons, including upgradability, affordability, and customization options. First, upgrading an existing PC rig is far easier than a console. Gamers can swap out and replace video cards, GPUs, and other components with only a few basic steps. In contrast, replacing these components on a console is extremely difficult and often impossible. Score one goes to PC for upgradability.

These upgrade options make PC gaming more affordable than console gaming. According to Techopedia, a new Playstation console comes out approximately every six years. When you adjust for inflation, the price of a Playstation increases with each generation—costing well over $600. Although the initial purchase price of a gaming PC might be more than a console, it typically remains capable of handling new games for a much longer life cycle. If you need more RAM, you can simply upgrade that specific component rather than buying an entirely new PC. PC Mag lists a number of recommended CPU upgrades for 2024—some as low as $80! Score two goes to PC for affordability.

Some people even find that building and upgrading a gaming PC is a rewarding and enjoyable hobby. With so many customization options, you can build a computer that reflects your unique personality and needs. In contrast, users only get the exact same console as everyone else when they buy instead of make. Score three goes to PC for customization potential. Not only can a PC be used for many tasks, like working remotely from home or doing general research, but it can also be built for play and be as much fun as any console you could buy. The PC is the more useful product in your home overall than the console; therefore, the high score goes to the PC!

Mark (Console)

When it comes to gaming, computers simply pale in comparison to consoles. Not only do consoles cost less than a PC, but they’re generally more user-friendly and easier to navigate. If you’re going to game on a PC, it requires considerably more commitment and investment. Gaming consoles also offer wireless controls, so if you choose to game on a PC, you are going to be positioned close to your screen. This can wreak havoc on your eyes, especially for those who like to participate in lengthy gaming sessions.

One of the primary reasons that consoles are more affordable than PCs is that the latter requires routine upgrades. You’ll regularly have to buy new software to keep up on a PC, whereas a gaming console’s installments are already built-in. You may also get notifications on your PC while gaming, which can affect your performance or distract you. This is highly unlikely to happen on a console. When you’re gaming on either Xbox or PS, you can simply enjoy the experience without interference.

Consoles also boast a wider variety of games than PC. In fact, there are certain titles you can find on consoles that aren't available on PC. This would include one of the games from the highly popular God Of War franchise. Gaming consoles are also just more common, especially if you want to share the experience with friends. Moreover, many consoles act as a type of Roku or Amazon Fire Stick, allowing you to enjoy non-gaming-related apps such as Netflix, Hulu and Disney+, YouTube, etc. They are the preferred device for various multi-player modes and offer a more enjoyable experience when gaming with others.
