Hunter Biden laptop authenticity confirmed by NYT: Is GOP right to demand new probe?

- On March 21, 2022, The New York Times confirmed the authenticity of Hunter Biden’s laptop, initially reported by The New York Post in October 2020, and having been mostly buried until recently. Republicans, like Sen. Ted Cruz, Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, and Rep. Claudia Tenney, are “demanding” a new investigation regarding the contents of the computer.
- On October 14, 2020, The Post published a report with a “smoking-gun email” between Hunter Biden and a Burisma board advisor about a meeting with Joe Biden. Twitter, Facebook and other prominent media outlets immediately censored the report, labeling it as a “hoax,” “hacked materials' and “Russian misinformation,” insinuating the report findings were illegitimate.
- On September 23, 2020, Senate Republicans released an 87-page report reviewing more than 45,000 pages of Obama administration records and interviewed eight witnesses, including former US officials summarizing the investigation “has illustrated the extent to which officials within the Obama administration ignored the glaring warning signs when the vice president’s son joined the board of a company owned by a corrupt Ukrainian oligarch.”
- An MRC poll following the 2020 election found that 16% of Biden voters would not have voted for Biden if they “had been aware of this actual evidence in emails, texts, testimony and banking transactions being investigated by the FBI.”

Hunter Biden appears to be a highly paid 'influence-peddler' on behalf of his father, President Joe Biden. His laptop, which the New York Times recently acknowledged is authentic, suggests some of that unseemly influence-peddling, if not outright criminality.
Some of the correspondence contained in the laptop was between Hunter Biden and Devon Archer, both board members of Ukraine energy company Burisma. Archer has since been sentenced to an unrelated fraud conviction. Hunter did not serve on the board because of his expertise in energy (he apparently has none). Rather, it was because he was Joe Biden's son.
Unsurprisingly, when the New York Post broke the story of Hunter Biden's laptop mere weeks before the 2020 election, Democrats and the national media—practically in unison—decried it as 'fake news' or 'Russian disinformation.' Nearly all of the major news networks were complicit in this lie. This coordinated effort even included several Big Tech companies. Twitter suspended the account of the New York Post until it removed its tweets surrounding the laptop story. Forever discrediting themselves, more than 50 former senior intelligence officials signed a letter suggesting it was Russian disinformation without any evidence. This was clearly a collaborative effort to discredit the story when it first broke because they knew it would not help get Joe Biden elected.
There is an ongoing grand jury probe into Hunter Biden's previously unpaid taxes. There are serious concerns and little doubt that Hunter Biden had been and continues to sell influence and access to his father. Given the current situation in Ukraine, it is in the public's interest to know what Hunter and Joe Biden were doing regarding Ukraine before, during, and after the 2020 election. Republicans are right to demand an investigation.

Hunter Biden has unfortunately not been the scandal-free son his father and current president needs. His personal and professional history has been continuously shrouded with scams, shams, and con games—not to mention affairs and denying that he was the father of his own daughter born to a stripper. Now that the NYT has verified the authenticity of Biden's laptop, Republicans want a new probe clearly to show the American people that both Hunter Biden and his father, Joe Biden, were involved in many unscrupulous deals. Unfortunately for them, this is old news—there is nothing in the laptop that will lead to any changes or charges as far as Joe Biden is concerned.
All of Hunter's debauchery and other shenanigans have already been published all over the internet. Hunter Biden is of as much value to American politics as Trump's children are, which is useless. Plus, he is facing a widening federal probe into his business dealings and tax filings. The Republicans want the probe so they can get to the nefarious deals from the laptop and claim that Biden should not have been elected as US president. But this fact cannot be changed as history has already been made.
Today, there are many other important issues facing the US. Besides the war in Ukraine, Americans are busy worried about an impending recession with record-breaking inflation, along with rising crime, gas prices, and illegal immigration. Rather than worrying about the old data in Hunter's laptop, Republicans need to figure out how to make America a better place to live. Ruining Joe Biden and his family's name for politics will not have any effect on his position, policies, or performance.
